As a step toward category management, the U.S. government is focusing on 10 “super categories” that cost agencies $277 billion in fiscal 2013, about two-thirds of total federal spending on goods and services, Anne Rung, administrator, Office of Federal Procurement Police, wrote in a blog post.
The Top 10 are:
- Facilities/Construction: $72 billion.
- Professional Services: $64 billion
- Information Technology: $47 billion.
- Transportation and Logistics Services: $34 billion.
- Medical: $33 billion.
- Industrial Products and Services: $12 billion.
- Security and Protection: $5 billion.
- Human Capital: $4 billion.
- Travel and Lodging: $4 billion.
- Office Management: $2 billion.
The government plans to develop and share best practices, provide solutions and manage supply and demand in each category. Find more information at http://goo.gl/ET2lJw
