SBA Expands Veterans Business Outreach Centers to 6 Additional States

The Small Business Administration announced last week that it is expanding the Veterans Business Development program to bring more business support to new, or existing, veteran entrepreneurs. The expansion is made possible thanks to an additional $3.5 million previously allocated to the FY2023 budget.

Veterans Business Outreach Centers (VBOCs) help veteran-led small businesses with partnerships, access to capital, marketing, business counseling, and training. They operate through cooperative agreements, which the SBA funds. About two million veteran-owned small businesses operate in the U.S. and employ more than five million people, by the White House’s count.

The funding will bring centers to the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada, and South Carolina. California already has two VBOCs–one serving the northern part of the state and another serving the southern part. California’s third center will open in Long Beach. And more are on the way.

The SBA anticipates that the new centers slated for 2023 will open by May 1.
